Will Chandy dare to say he didn't buy RSS votes? Kodiyeri

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has alleged that in the 1991 Assembly election, RSS had voted for Ooomen Chandy in Puthupally constituency, based on a secret understanding.

“Has Oommen Chandy got the nerve to say he didn’t buy votes from the RSS? We know RSS very well. If they discard intolerance from their working style, there will be peace in the State. CPM is ready for open talks with anyone, not only the RSS, to end tension. That is not a vote business as done by the Congress. The party has the same stand, whether it is Mohan Bhagwat or Kummanam Rajasekharan,” Kodieri expressed this opinion at a press conference here on Tuesday.

He said Chandy need not daydream thinking about 1977 victory. “It is no more that day’s LDF or UDF now. LDF had only CPM and Janata party that day. That time, the Left made alliance with Jansangh to bring an end to emergency. The ruin of Congress Raj started for the first time in the country then. Even Oommen Chandy opposed emergency, though a little later.”

"After UDF came to power, Ooommen Chandy and BJP were hand in glove in several issues. That is why Vellapally and BJDS constitutional advisor Rajan Babu, a UDF leader, are enjoying all legal and political protection under the UDF government. Now, many Congressmen are part of Vellapally’s party. Will KPCC president V M Sudheeran give them dual membership?"

Kodiyeri said the chief mister had been giving a false interpretation to CPM’s willingness for peace talks with the RSS. “Chandy wants to maintain tension between CPM and RSS all time and thus get RSS votes. After UDF came to power in the State, 18 CPM workers were lynched by RSS men in different parts of the State. RSS should shun arms training to bring total peace in Kannur,” he added.
