NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court in its order has said that fund can be collected from the public for the renovation of Sree Padmanabha Swami Temple. The court, on Wednesday, asked the temple authorities to open a bank account for the money collected and maintain proper audit records.
The apex court also instituted a three-member committee to over see the security arrangements provided for the temple treasure and renovation works. Dr M V Nair, who was the member secretary of the panel formed to asses the value of the treasure, will head the new panel. M G Sasibhoosan and Aditya Varma will be the other members.
Rs 65 lakh is expected to cost the renovation works. The court instructed that out of the Rs 65 lakh, government should give Rs 50 lakh and the rest could be collected from the public. The court also gave permission to the government to take legal steps to evacuate illegal shops surrounding the temple.
