KANNUR: An LPG bullet tanker Tuesday caught fire after it overturned on the national highway at Kallyasseri, about 10 kms from here.
The Indian Oil Corporation's lorry was coming from Mangalore to Kozhikode side when it overturned and caught fire, police said.
The driver and another person in the lorry sustained minor injuries in the incident, they said.
Five units of the fire force reached the spot. The residents of the locality have been evacuated as part of safety measure. Power supply has been disconnected.
Transportation on the national highway has come to a standstill following the incident.
Vehicles to Kannur have been diverted via Valappattanam and heavy vehicles from Payyannur via Sreekandappuram. District collector and high police officials, Minister K P Mohanan and Kalyasseri MLA T V Rajesh have reached the spot.
