MALAPPURAM: A sessions court here Thursday awarded 30 year imprisonment to a man for raping a three-year-old girl at Tirur in Malappuram a year ago.
Manjeri Sessions Court judge P K Haneefa sentenced Mohammed Jasim (29), a native of Parappanangadi, to 30 year imprisonment under different sections of the IPC for sexually assaulting the child.
The court which slapped a fine of Rs 15,000 on him, also directed the government to pay Rs one lakh to the victim.
The judge, however, reduced the punishment to ten year imprisonment if underwent concurrently.
According to the prosecution, the accused kidnapped the girl, who was sleeping with her mother near Tirur Government Hospital premises, and assaulted her on March 4 in 2013.
