Eight-year-old girl ‘abused’ at Vallakkadavu

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An eight-year-old girl, studying in fourth standard, was allegedly subjected to physical abuse at the Lorry parking lot near Vallakkadavu boat jetty here.

The girl told the police that she was returning home after tuition, when a man whisked her off to a secluded place and abused her.

The girl’s lip was bruised in the incident which happened on Saturday. However the girl did not inform his parents about the incident, out of fear and it came to light only on Wednesday at a school counselling session. The school authorities soon reached her home and informed her parents, following which a police complaint was lodged.
   
The local residents came to know about the incident on Wednesday evening. Tension gripped the area as the embarrassing news spread. Police said the girl had no idea about the person who allegedly abused her, but the local people’s suspicious eyes are on the strangers who frequent the lorry parking area.

The girl will be subjected to medical examination on Thursday, Shankumughan police has said. Valiyathura police have registered a case in this connection.
