CPM calls off fasting against LPG price hike

KANNUR: The CPM on Saturday called off its agitation in 1400 centres against LPG price hike. At a press conference here on Saturday, CPM State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan said the party’s decision to end fasting comes in the backdrop of Centre’s decision to raise the subsidy LPG cylinder quota to 12.

Pinarayi claimed that the agitation was a huge success. “The Centre changed its stand only after coming to know about people’s anger over the issue. The CPM has made its own contribution in the fight against government’s LPG policy. But if Aadhar is made mandatory, the CPM would resume the protests, the form of which will be decided later,” he said.

Pinarayi criticises Congress

Expressing condolences over the demise of Sunanda Pushkar, the wife of Union Minister Shahsi Tharoor, Pinarayi asked why Congress leaders failed to visit Tharoor’s house even after coming to know about Sunanad’s death. “All were n Delhi for AICC meet and, only Kodikunnil Suresh managed to reach Tharoor’s house, even though he was late,” he added.
