Shalini murder case: Sex worker under arrest

KOTTAYAM: Kottayam West Police have arrested a sex worker in connection with the alleged murder of another sex worker Shalini, 38, from Laha in a recent acid attack case.

The arrested is Radha, 49, (in picture), living in a rented house in Kanjikkuzhi in Kottayam. “Yesterday Radha agreed to have committed the crime, when she was subjected to detailed police interrogation,” said the police

Hailing from Thiruvananthapuram, Radha established her prostitution racket in Kottaayam 10 years ago. Several times, she had been nabbed by the police for immoral actives and in cases related to attack on police.

The reason for the alleged murder is said to be professional rivalry. Both victim and Radha used to have a control over sex workers in Kottayam. When Shalini used to charge Rs 500 to 1000 from customers, Radha charged only Rs 300 to 500. In between, they also physically fought over this disparity in payment. The recent incident is said to be fallout of this rivalry between them.

Meawhile poilice said Radha was a drunkard with criminal background and used to fleece her customers in the dark of the night.
