Rs 1.5 L seized from K Babu’s house, Rs 6.5 L from benami’s house

KOCHI: The Vigilance today conducted raids in the houses of former Excise Minister and Congress leader K Babu and his benami and seized Rs eight lakh.

From Babu’s Thrippunithura house, Rs 1.5 lakh was seized and from the house of his benami and bakery owner Rs 6.5 lakh was seized.    

According to sources, neither Babu nor his benami was able to produce clear documents regarding the source of money.
Raid is also going on in the houses of Babu’s aid Nandakumar.

It was today morning that Vigilance raided the houses in connection with a disproportionate assets case against him.   
A case was also registered today against Babu in this regard. The Vigilance also raided houses of Babu’s children, suspected benamis, relatives and associates,

Raids were conducted simultaneously at a daughter’s house near Thodupuzha Gandhi Square and another daughter’s house at Palarivattom.

Raids were carried out by a five-member team headed by two DySPs. The action is based also on the complaints that he took bribe from bar owners and committed irregularity in allotting bar licences.

Two days ago, Moovattupuzha Vigilance Court had filed FIR against Babu in Bar bribery case. The raid was conducted to examine his properties and assets based on the FIR. The officals are investigating the transactions he did in the last five years. Raids were conducted in the houses of Babu’s suspected benamis Babu Ram ( Kumbalam) and Mohan (Panagadu).
