Soumya case: Steps begin to file review plea against SC verdict

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government has started taking steps to file a review plea against the verdict of the Supreme Court dismissing the death sentence of Govindachamy, accused in the Soumya murder case.

Law Minister A K Balan will reach Delhi Friday as part of it. Balan will hold talks with the lawyers and standing counsel of the Supreme Court. If necessary, the government will appoint a new advocate to file a review plea.

Kerala’s plea will point the flaws in Supreme Court’s order quashing death sentence. Balan reiterated that though life sentence was awarded to Govindachamy, there is no change in the decision of filing the review plea. The chief minister himself has clarified it and there is no need of a confusion on it, he told reporters here.

No errors were seen on the part of the government and the lawyers who handled the case, he said.
