Close save for Ayyappa devotee who falls from train

KOTTAYAM: An Ayyappa devotee from Tamil Nadu who fell into the gap between the train and platform had a providential escape on Wednesday.

The accident occurred at around 5 in the morning at Kottayam Railway station.

The devotee along with his friends was on his way to Sabarimala and Kottayam was an alighting point. When the train pulled in at the station the devotee was fast asleep and he woke up only when the train started to move. Seeing his co-travellers out of the train, he jumped off the moving train and fell in the gap between the train and  platform.

But he was quick enough to lie flat on the ground with face on the ground until all the bogies pulled out of the station. By the time the railway police arrived, he climbed onto the platform and walked toward his friends.

Narrating the incident to Kerala Kaumudi, police said it was amazing to see the devotee walking away without even a scratch on his body, after a risky fall. “We could not collect his whereabouts as he walked off quickly to join his group,” said the police.
