THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala government will file an affidavit in the Supreme Court, endorsing the importance of Aadhar for availing of benefits like cooking gas subsidy.
The apex court had earlier ruled in an interim order that Aadhar was not compulsory for enjoying various government benefits. Following this, the court had sought the stand taken by all states in this regard. The government’s affidavit is in response to this.
In the affidavit, Kerala will point out that linking subsidy and Aadhar will prove beneficial in different ways. It will avoid middlemen and prevent people from turning up with forged documents for admission in government schools.
However, the government will bring to the notice of the court that the state will need more time for linking Aadhar to bank accounts.
