Rahul gives polio to tot at health centre in Kerala

ALAPPUZHA: Congress Vice-president Rahul Gandhi Monday joined the polio drop distribution at a Primary Heath Centre at Thuravoor in Alappuzha and interacted with doctors, paramedics and local people who thronged to meet him.

Gandhi, who arrived to participate in the "Yuva Kerala Yatra" campaign, led by State Youth Congress President Dean Kuriakose, dropped in at the centre located between Kochi and Alappuzha and spent about half-an-hour there.

When Gandhi reached there, polio distribution was in progress and he immediately joined the campaign by giving polio drops to a baby.

The Congress leader also lavished praise on the universal public health care system in Kerala, terming it as "one of the best in the country."

"Your health care system is reputed in India and outside. What is the secret behind it?" he was heard asking hospital authorities.

Gandhi also praised the services rendered by nurses from the state not only in different parts of India but also in many foreign countries.

He was received at the Nedumbassery airport near Kochi by Union Minister Vayalar Ravi, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala and other party leaders.

The main themes of the yatra are secularism and creation of a non-violent society. It was inaugurated by KPCC president and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala last month at Kasargod in north Kerala.
