NDF activist gets life in murder case
KOLLAM: In the case related to the murder of CPM leader M A Asharaff, 32, from Anchal Tadikkattu, Kollam Additional District and Sessions court has sentenced first convict Abdul Khadhar, 47, to life in prison.
The court had earlier given rigorous life imprisonment to 13 convicts. Seven accused had been acquitted.
The incident happened in a July night of 2002 at around 10:30, when a 16-member barged into the house of Asharaff and hacked him to death in front of his wife and father.
Abdulk Khadar was arrested but he managed to get bail and went into hiding. Later he forged his passport and fled the country. In 2010 he returned to India but was detained by Mumbai Emmigration officials. He was subsequently handed over to the Kerala police. Three other convicts in the case are still absconding.
