Couple robbed of money, gold at Thodupuzha

THODUPUZHA: A four-member gang entered the house of a couple in Thodupuzha on Monday at midnight between 12:30 and 1 am, tied their hands and legs with rope and robbed them of money and gold.

The four-member gang appeared to be migrant laboureres and they were speaking Hindi and broken English. They woke the house owner up by shouting from outside and ringing the calling bell. Once he opened the door, the gang barged in and took away Rs 1.70 lakh and four and a half sovereign gold, besides two mobile phones.

The house owner is Balachandran (58), a prominent business man and petrol pump owner at Thodupuzha. Wife is Sreeja (51). In the tussle the couple was injured and they took treatment from a private hospital here.

Police are said to have detained two persons and about 20 persons are being grilled in this connection.
