Keralite stabs woman to death for spurning love

COIMBATORE: A youth from Kerala stabbed a 23-year-old-girl to death for spurning his love in Mettupalayam. The victim has been identified as Dhanya, daughter of Somasundaram of Olavakode in Palakkad.

Though the police took Shakeer (27) of Puthur in Palakkad into custody early Thursday morning, he has been admitted in the hospital after he consumed some chemical fertilizer.

She was recently engaged to a Keralite teacher. This may have forced him to take the extreme step.

She was alone at home when Shakeer allegedly entered her house and attacked her with a sickle after she refused her advances. Her parents had gone out for shopping and had locked the front door.

Her parents were staying in Mettuppalayam for the past 33 years. Dhanya was working in an IT Company in Pongalur.

The youth who tried to flee to Palakkad soon after the incident consumed the fertilizer. He has been admitted at a hospital in Palakkad. Shakeer used to work in a cloth company and in a tea shop in Coimbatore.
