Soumya case: Review petition to be filed, says minister Balan

THRISSUR: State Law Minister A K Balan has said that the government will file a review petition against the Supreme Court order cancelling the death sentence of Soumya case convict Govindachamy. At a press conference, he said had talked to Advocate General in this regard.

“The court verdict is the one that gives anxiety to the general public. Prosecution advocate Thomas P Joseph can’t be blamed for this. The government has also not erred in conducting the trial. Facts that were pointed out in the lower court were also submitted in the Supreme Court. Absence of witnesses in the case was a major setback. Strangely enough, there were people to financially back Govindaswami in his legal fight. This aspect should be probed,” the minister said.
