KOYILANDI: CPM State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has spurned the stand taken by Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan on Gadgil Committee Report over conservation of the Western Ghats. He said V S would have backed the report because of some misunderstanding or misconception he was having.
“The CPM’s stand is that a new committee should be constituted to replace Kasturirangan/ Gadgil committees. The new panel should have scientists, environmentalists and experts in other fields. Though environmental factor is important, human factor is more important. If Regulatory authority is instituted to give environmental sanction, it will create more problems,” he said .
In another context, Pinarayi said the CPM had been against the Aranmula project from the very beginning. Things like updating the title deeds were done during the tenure of UDF government.
“In Koyilandi, N V Balakrishnan, who had to face action from the party, has accepted it. Other problems can be solved within the party itself,” he added.
