College girl says marrying out of religion lands her in trouble

KOZHIKODE: A Degree student has come up with a complaint that she was not allowed to attend the college class as he had married a man from a different religion.

The complainant is Neeraja, a first year degree student of a private women’s college at Nadakkavu in Kozhikode.
Neeraja has been in love with Muhammed Rameez. On February 1, she eloped with him and on the 6th, they registered their marriage.

But Neeraja who returned to the college on February 11 was not allegedly allowed to attend the class.
“The college authorities told me that I would not be allowed to attend the class for marrying out of caste and marrying without the permission of my parents,” Neeraja alleged.

However, College authorities dismissed the allegation outright. The college principal said the girl had come back to college after ten day’s absence without leave application and hence she was asked to bring her parents also with her for continuing his studies. “We have also asked for marriage certificate and she was asked to wait for a week. Now she is trying making unnecessary controversy,” he added.
