Gun-toting Police Commissioner chases subordinate cops

THRISSUR: An irked Thrissur Police Commissioner today threatened his subordinate with his service gun, resulting in dramatic scenes and hospitalisation of the latter. It was Commissioner Himendra Nath who threatened A R Camp Assistant commandant Kuriyachan yesterday.

The incident happened yesterday night at the commissioner’s camp office. Kurien was given the charge of deploying police men for traffic control during Onam. The Commisisoner later called him to his camp office and chided him for dereliction of duty. When Kuriechychan started arguing, the commissioner lost his temper, took out his service revolver, saying he would shoot him.

The Commandant who took to his heels, was chased by the Commissioner. Before long, he fainted and other police officers who reached the spot shifted him to General hospital. As his conditional was not stable, he was shifted to Medical College.

Later the Commissioner intervened and shifted him to Aswini hospital.

In between the above developments, the Commissioner called a meeting of officers to discuss action against the commandant. But, later he withdrew from it, considering Kuriechan’s ill-health.
