THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Finance Minister K M Mani has withdrawn the additional tax imposed on rice and rice products. He made this announcement in the Assembly today in between discussions.
The government had increased tax on several essential commodities like coconut oil, Sugar etc. By doing away with the increased tax, it will lose Rs 260 core.
In the budget, 1 per cent additional tax was imposed on rice, rice products and wheat and five per cent for Maida, Aatta and Rava.
But the rice distributed to the poor through Public Distribution System will continue without cess.
Two per cent for sugar and one per cent for coconut oil had also been imposed in the budget.
