NEW DELHI: Finance Minister K M Mani has been chosen as the chairperson of high power committee appointed by the Centre to implement Goods and Services Tax. The Central Finance ministry clarified that the selection of chairperson was the first step towards the implementation of the GST on April 1, 2016.
The discussion on the selection of chairperson was held on March 20 in the first meeting of the committee. The meeting was chaired by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
Just fourteen ministers took part in the meeting then. The Union Finance minister was asked to take a decision on the appointment of new chairperson after holding talks with others. Mani’s name was confirmed after the discussions.
