Pinarayi demands probe on allegations against Minister Babu

KOZHIKODE: Politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan Tuesday demanded a probe into alleged bar bribery case after removing Excise Minister K Babu from office. Talking to media persons here, Pinarayi, who had recently stepped down as the party's state secretary, said it was necessary to conduct a detailed probe in the wake of fresh revelation by Kerala Bar Hotel Association vice-president Biju Ramesh that Babu and two other ministers accepted bribe for renewal of licences. It was also essential to find out who were the other two beneficiaries as alleged by Biju, he said, adding that it appeared that money was also taken for Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, he said.

On the allegations by K B Ganesh Kumar, MLA against PWD Minister amassing wealth disproportionate to his known source of income, he said this too needed to be investigated thoroughly. Biju had earlier alleged that Finance Minister K M Mani had accepted bribe for renewal of bar licence prompting the opposition to seek his resignation. The assembly on March 13 had witnessed unruly scenes following a determined opposition attempting to prevent Mani from presenting the budget.
