DGPs rise in protest; Legal action likely

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Senior IPS officers in the State have come out in protest against arbitrary transfers they had been subjected to. DGPs Loknath Behera, Rishiraj Singh and Jacob Thomas have demanded a meeting of IPS association soon. They are expected to go for legal action if the transfer orders are not cancelled.

Earlier Behera, had informed that he was going on leave in protest against removing him from the post of jail chief and appointing him as Fire force chief, outside the cadre. He had also informed Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson and Home Secretary Nalini Netto that the transfer amounted his degradation.

Following this, Behera thought of joining the coterie of top officers that included Construction Corporation MD DGP Jacob Thomas, who was already in the path of ‘rebellion’ and his supporter DGP Rishiraj Singh.

Behera was also cross over the government decision to appoint ADGP Shankar Reddy as Vigilance director after rejecting his request for the post. The present upheaval is also a fallout of the decision to appoint an ADGP as Vigilance chief, when three officers with DGP ranks were readily available.
