Govt for online voting facility for NoRKs
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government will urge the Centre and the Chief Election Commission to provide online voting facility for Non-Resident Keralites (NoRKs) in the ensuing Assembly elections, Minister for Non-Resident Keralites K C Joseph has said. Replying to a calling attention motion on the need for making provisions to enable NoRKs to exercise their franchise in the Assembly elections, Joseph said in the Assembly on Tuesday that the government was keen on providing online voting facility for NoRKs so that they need not have to come to the state. This calls for amendments to the Representation of People’s Act. The government would urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central Election Commission to take necessary steps to provide the facility in the Assembly elections. The state government has already included the names of NoRKs in the voters’ list for the local government elections and had urged the State Election Commissioner to provide the facility.
