KOLLAM: The plaque containing the name of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has been removed as he will be keeping away from the unveiling ceremony of R Sankar’s statue scheduled on Kollam S N College campus on December 15.It was removed last night. After the withdrawal of the chief minister, the function will now be chaired by SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan. The statue will be unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Meantime, the office of the chief minister has officially informed the PMO that he will not be attending the function. It has also been informed that the chief minister will receive the Prime Minister at the Nedumbassery Airport.
CPM leader and Kollam MLA P K Gurudasan will also stay away from the function. The act of Vellappally insulting the chief minister is anti-people, he said.
In the meanwhile, Vellappally made it clear that he has nothing more to respond on the controversy. Modi was invited for the function by the S N Trust and feel proud to have been able to bring him for the function. The unveiling ceremony is not an official function.
Modi will deliver a speech at the function. The controversy benefitted the chief minister and he has changed a saint now. The opposition had attacked the chief minister in the solar case. Now, they all have turned his fans. Many including the opposition leader are sorry. The opposition are sadder than the ruling front. Now, a heavy rush is being witnessed to partake in the function, he said.
