THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has said that the government will not allow any move to destroy the communal amity in Kerala.
The minister was replying to the submission made by T N Prathapan MLA regarding SNDP yogam general secretary Vellapally Natesan’s Aluva speech that had reference to Naushadh.
“Nobody is above the law. Those who try to spread problems in the strong land of secularism, will be strongly opposed, whoever that person is. In the land where Sree Narayana Guru broke the chains of Chathurvarnya , nobody will be allowed to sow the seeds of communalism. Strong action will be taken against persons making speeches that incite communal hatred. The government will not allow tension to be created among different communities. If it is necessary, strong action will be taken against perpetrators of such undesired things,” he said.
In reply to Benny Behannan’s submission, Chennithala said, in the wake of increasing sexual harassment against students, counselling session will be intensified in schools. “The accused in such cases will be awarded maximum punishment and awareness campaigns will be held in this regard with the help of the public. According to the statistics, 1002 students were harassed in Kerala during the period 2013-14. During 2014-15, it became 1350 and this year till September, 1139 cases were registered.
