PSC now comes under the ambit of RTI Act

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court today ordered to bring the Public Service Commission (PSC) under the ambit of Right To Information (RTI) Act. The apex court upheld the 2011 Kerala high court order in this regard.

The PSC had approached the Supreme Court, questioning the high court order. However, the apex court directed the PSC not to reveal the names of evaluators but, to disclose all other details.

The verdict was pronounced by the bench headed by Justice Iqbal, which observed that the PSC should be brought under the RTI act, if it has to remain above all doubts.

The PSC contented that revealing all documents would result in constitutional crisis. It questioned the risk of a third person getting the answer paper, which was rejected by the court. PSC’s argument that the above move would increase its workload was also not accepted by the court.
