THIRUVANANHPURAM: Solar case main accused Biju Radhakrishnan deposed before the Solar Commission that he had given Rs Five and a half crore bribe to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. He said he handed over Rs Five crore 10 lakh in person. The total amount was given in three instalments. He also said that the chief minister had a definite role in the formation and growth of Team solar.
“Money was given as demanded by chief minister’s ex-gunman Salim Raj. Rest of the money was given through the chief minister’s personal staff members Joeppen and Jikkumon Jacob. The discussions were held at Ernakulam guest house in this regard. Besides crores given as bribe, the chief minister and office took money for several other needs. When the cheques given to the chief minister’s relief fund bounced back, the amount was given directly to the office,” said Biju , who also mentioned his visit to the CM’s office with Sreedharan Nair.
Biju said an agreement was made to share the profit of Team Solar in the ratio 60:40. 40 crore was the chief minister’s share and it was also agreed to make chief minisiter’s son Chandy Oommen a partner in the Team solar.
“The chief minister had agreed to give Kinfra’s 70 acre land to Team solar. He also promised 150 acre land to start wind mill. I had contacted the chief minister through the mobile phones of Joeppen and Jikku. Even I called when I had gone into hiding in Coimbatore. The chief minister had assured me that I would get bail even if I got arrested. I had demanded protection for Actress Shalu Menon. On behalf of the chief minister, Kottayam native Thomas Kondadi had come to see me in jail. Three times he came to see me in jail and court. I am revealing all this with the clear awareness that my life will be under threat.,” Biju concluded.
