Body found in quarry

KOCHI: The police on Tuesday found the unidentified body of a person aged around 30 in a quarry under the Chottanikkara police station limits. Officials said the partially decomposed body was found floating in the unused quarry at Sasthammuga. Following an alert, a police team rushed to the spot and fished out the body. “Preliminary investigations identified the person as S R Arun, 33, a native of Attingal in Thiruvananthapuram, who had worked as a Village Extension Officer in Puthenkurissu,” officials said.

The police are now awaiting the autopsy report to confirm the finding. Arun had gone missing on November 4 from the St. Peters College in Kolencherry where he was deployed at the election distribution centre set up as part of the State local body elections. “The SIM card and wallet recovered from the decomposed body suggested the objects belonged to the missing person,” said Pushpa Kumar, Sub-Inspector of police. He had gone missing while on election duty, following which a man missing case was filed at the Puthenkurissu police station.
