Maoists presence in Idukki

KOTTAYAM: Maoists were noticed in Idukki soon after their presence were reported in Wayanad and Attappady. With the arrest of Maoist leader Siddhartha Mondal, (30), it has been confirmed that more Maoists are hiding in various sectors of Idukki district. The police have intensified their search operations.

Mondal taken into custody yesterday will be produced at the Nedunkandam Court today. He will be handed over to West Bengal police who came with West Bengal Alipurduar additional magistrate’s transit warrant. The Nedukandam police were able to take Mondal, who took up a job at a private cardamom estate in Myladumpara three months back, into custody only yesterday.
