Unveiling of Shankar statue: Minister K P Mohanan to take part

KOLLAM: Amid controversies, the organisers of the state unveiling ceremony is gearing up to make the event an historic event.

Though the Congress and the Left are up in arms against excluding the chief minister from the statue unveiling ceremony, Minister K P Mohan will attend the function representing the Kerala government. N K Premachandran MP, P K Gurudasan MLA and Mayor Advocate Rajendra Babu have informed that that they will not attend the function.

Meanwhile, the organisers said Mayor Rajendra Babu’s statement that he had not been invited to the function was not based on true facts. Organising committee General Convenor S Suvarna Kumar said that the Mayor was earlier invited and organisers had gone to his office with the programme notice and invited him.

The organisers are hell-bent on making the event a great success, despite controversies. Yellow flags, flex boards and Modi’s hoardings will adorn both sides of the National Highway to welcome the prime minister. The overall sprucing up of the town has been done for the occasion. The prime minister will reach Ashramam Maithan at 2:30 pm on Tuesday. R Shankar’s statue will be unveiled at a ceremony to be held at 2:35pm.
