Tight security arrangements in place for Modi's visit


Kochi: Police and other security agencies have put in place tight security, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's two day visit to the state. Governor P Sathasivam and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will receive the Prime Minister. Other ministers, Kochi mayor Soumini Jain, people's representatives, Chiefs of armed forces and other senior officials will also welcome the Prime Minister at the Kochi Naval base.
The Prime Minister will then proceed to Thrissur in the Navy's helicopter. After speaking at the BJP's public programme at Thekkinkad grounds, Modi will go to Kochi. He will stay at Hotel Taj Malabar in Wellingdon Island.
The Police and the military conducted a mock drill on Sunday on the route Modi will take for travelling to Kochi from Thrissur. Parking has been banned on both sides of the roads through which the Prime minister's convoy will pass.  The Taj Malabar hotel is already under the control of the Special Protection Group.

More than a thousand policemen have been deployed as part of the security arragement. The dog squad and the bomb squad conducted thorough checks at several places in the city on Sunday.
The Prime Minister, who will visit the Kochi Naval base on Tuesday morning, will inspect the guard of honour given jointly by the three Armed Forces.   After participating in a conference, which will be attended by heads of the Army, Navy and Air Force at the aircraft carrier ship in deep sea, Modi will proceed to Kollam at 1.45 pm. He will leave for Sivagiri in Varkala after unveiling the statue of Former Chief Minister R Sankar in Kollam. Modi will fly back to Delhi from the Thiruvananthapuram airport at 5.15 pm.
