Vellapally insists on ‘folded palms’ symbol

ALAPPUZHA: SNDP yogam general secretary Vellapally Natesan has said he would not go back on his stand on his new party Bharat Dharma Jan Sena (BDJS)’s ‘folded palms’ symbol. “There is difference between palm symbol of the Congress and our party’s ‘folded palms’ symbol. Take the case of CPM and CPI. The former’s symbol is sickle and hammer while the latter’s is sickle and a sheaf of paddy. Their symbols were permitted despite the similarities they have,” Vellapally was responding to the reports that folded palms symbol would not be allowed to the new party by the Election Commission.

Vellapally said, “the Congress had complained to the Election Commission against BDJS’ symbol. But it will take a decision only after hearing our side. The Commission has asked for the explanation. At the hearing, we will clarify our stand.”

Regarding Sivagiri mutt’s recent controversial remark on Prime Minister Modi’s mutt visit, Vellapally said, “The prime minister’s visit is not to meet Sivagiri swamis. He is visiting the mutt to imbibe the spiritual essence of the mutt. Sanyasis comment that Modi would be visiting the mutt without invitation is regretful.  He expressed his wish to visit the mutt as he would be coming to Kerala. But such a discourteous comment should not have come from Sanyasis’ mouth.”
