Vellappally seeks anticipatory bail

KOCHI: SNDP yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan has approached the Kerala High Court for anticipatory bail following a case registered against him for his controversial hate speech. His bail plea stated that the case was registered against him with political aim. The court will consider the plea day after tomorrow.

Vellappally said the speech delivered in Aluva as part of his Samathwa Munnetta Yatra was not against anybody. I spoke against the discrimination witnessed in the distribution of financial aid. I had not insulted any religion in the speech at Manappuram. I just demanded equal justice and protection for all sections from
the government. Religious and community leaders have not complained that my speech is growing hatred. A complaint was lodged only by political leaders. The UDF Government registered a case against me for floating a new political party.

Natesan had drawn flake for his comment that there was caste discrimination on the part of the government in distributing aid. He said only Muslims get due assistance from the government when they die and one should die as a Muslim to get some benefit.

While referring to the government’s decision to give financial assistance to the family of an auto driver who died while trying to save two workers from a sewage canal in Kozhikode last week, Natesan said the auto driver’s act was acknowledged because of being a Muslim.
