THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The cabinet meeting on Wednesday decided to reduce the travel fare in ordinary KSRTC buses by Rs 1. Thus, the minimum charge will come down from Rs 7 to Rs 6. In the fares for different stages after the minimum charge, there will be a proportionate decrease of Rs 1.
In the Cabinet briefing during the day, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said the above decision was taken to ensure that benefits of reduction in petrol/diesel prices reached the people.
The new price will come into effect on March 1. With this, KSRTC will face a deficit of Rs 27 lakh in its daily income.
The government also plans to reduce the fares of private buses on this line.
