Kodiyeri seeks Chandy’s resignation after poll debacle

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who said the civic polls would be an evaluation of the government, should resign after accepting the verdict, said CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. KPCC chief V M Sudheeran and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala had stated that it would be government’s referendum, he said while talking to the media.

The chief minister had opined like this after the polls earlier. He stood firm on it as they attained gains at that time. Now the people have turned against them.  This was the strong response against the corrupted rule. This was the verdict against communalism, he said.

Kodiyeri said BJP coming second in some places should be seen seriously. However, the party was not able to retain the gain achieved in the Parliament polls. The LDF is in the forefront in district panchayat and in other big districts. In the newly formed Kannur Corpooration, the UDF would be dependent on a dissident Congress candidate, who trounced all his other rivals to emerge victorious.

The reasons for the defeat of the LDF in some places will be examined in detail, he said.
