THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Aluva police have registered a case against SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellapally Natesan under IPC 153 (A) for allegedly spreading communal hatred in Kerala.
This was announced by Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala at a press conference here on Monday. He said the police had prepared the FIR based on several complaints, including that of Congress Chief Whip T N Prathapan MLA, media reports and the statement made by Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan. “The complaints had said that strong action should be taken against Vellapally who is making sensitive communal statements from different parts of the Kerala. The complaints received were handed over to home secretary and based on the advice of Directorate of Prosecution, the FIR was prepared,” he said.
If proved the case could give Vellapally a jail term of three years and fine.
Chennithala said that Vellapally was implementing the agendas of the RSS and BJP. “Vellapally has been indulging in a never-before propagation of communal hatred. His statement against Naushad, who sacrificed his life to save two labourers, is despicable. Kerala people should shun his comments, which will spread hatred on the basis of caste and religion.
The home minister also informed that the Crime Branch had started probe into corruption allegation against Vellapally vis-à-vis Micro Finance corruption. “Crime Branch SP Sreedharan is in charge of the investigation. The government provides financial aides to the needy without considering their caste or religion. We would not allow any move aimed at destroying the communal peace and tranquillity in the State.”
Regarding DGP Jacob Thomas’ complaint seeking permission for action against the chief minister, Chennithala said the chief secretary would send him the report on it and he would announce the government stand after examining the file concerned.
Meanwhile, Vellapally said he was prepared for the arrest.
