DGP Jacob Thomas seeks permission to approach court against CM

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Police Housing Construction MD DGP Jacob Thomas has given a letter seeking permission to approach the court against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. The letter given to DGP T P Senkumar four days back has been handed over to the chief secretary. The chief minister has pictured me as anti-people and if not corrected publicly then should permit me to approach the court, the letter said.

Thomas said the chief minister criticized me for returning the applications without giving sanction for flats. The letter explained that action was taken against flat owners when he was fire force DGP after considering the safety of the people. Thomas said that he was defamed and insulted after picturing him as anti-people. Being a top official, I was not given due consideration. Anil Kanth, who succeeded me as fire force chief, too supported my action. The chief minister continued his outburst against me. As a police official, I was tainted. The government’s action is very painful, he pointed in the letter.  Meantime, chief secretary Jiji Thomson refused to divulge the details of the letter.

Thomas was in spat with the government in the bar bribery case. Following the spat, he was removed from vigilance and made the fire force chief. There also he took strict action. He was later shifted to police housing construction corporation. Thomas’ response that truth has won soon after vigilance court’s order in the bar case had enraged the government. He was later issued a show cause notice. In the meanwhile, he made some indirect criticisms in the Facebook also. The chief secretary and the DGP too criticized his stand.
