First five convicted in Panayikulam SIMI camp case

KOCHI: The special NIA Court in Kochi found guilty the first five accused for convening a meet of Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), a banned terrorist organization, at Panayikulam. The court acquitted accused from sixth to twelfth and from 14th to 17th on lack of evidence.

Shaduly alias Haris Abdul Karim, a native of Erattupetta, Abdul Rasik of Erattupetta, Anzar Nadvi of Aluva, Nizamuddin of Panayikulam and Shammas of Erattupetta are the first five accused found guilty. Their quantum of sentence will be pronounced tomorrow.

The first and third accused in the case have been charged for sedition and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The accused has been shifted to district jail. Defense advocates said they will appeal against the verdict.
