THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police on Saturday started the investigation to find out the source of the fake social media news about actor Jagathy Sreekumar’s death after his family members lodged a complaint with Cyber Cell and City Police Commissioner in this regard.
The news started doing the rounds from yesterday evening. It came out with the logo of prominent Malayalam new channel and under the heading Breaking news. It said that the actor collapsed and died in the house of his brother-in-law and the reason for the death was heart-attack. It even went on to add that the last rites would take place tomorrow afternoon.
Jagathy’s daughter Sree Lekshmi said she would also file a police complaint. However, this is not a new thing in the social media and are seen as the pranks of mischief makers. Personalities like Madhuri Dixit, Mammukkoya and Salim Kumar have fallen prey to this.
