Kannur Corpn Council to focus on development

KANNUR: Newly-sworn in Kannur Corporation Mayor E P Latha CPI (M) said the newly general council would give priority for the comprehensive development of the town and ensuring corruption-free governance. Addressing a meet-the -press organized by Kannur Press Club, Latha said all the promises given by the LDF through the election manifesto would be fulfilled. She said the bad reputation of Kannur was due to political violence. This would be changed into "Green Kannur" with the help of Opposition councilors and the people.

She also said necessary steps would be taken to avoid the traffic congestion in corporation limits areas. She also assured to encourage organic farming and the garbage disposal at their source. Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor C Saleem of IUML also assured development projects. He said the UDF will co-ordinate and there was no politics in development of Kannur. He also said politics will take its way. The administration will continue the ongoing projects, which were implemented by the UDF in the previous years in Kannur Town.

To a question, Latha said the five panchayat offices, which were attached to Kannur Corporation while forming the new local body, would function as Zonal offices temporarily and the people from that place need not visit Corporation to attain birth or death certificates and other documents. She also said she would consider all the 55 councilors the same way. So there is no question of supporting the Congress rebel councilor P K Raghesh
