KOTTAYAM: In a case of alleged medical negligence resulting in the death of a girl who had sought medical care for her injured finger, the police have arrested the doctor who had treated her.
The arrested was Dr Sajin Luckose of Mukkoottuthara Azeesia hospital. The police said he didn’t possess the valid license to do medical practice in Kerala.
The girl who died the other day was Panchima aka Salomi (Alphonsa -23), the foster ward of the late Devasya and Aaniyamma from Erumeli.
On Tuesday, Salomi was admitted to hospital after she accidently cut off her thumb’s edge while she was cutting firewood. The doctor then reportedly gave test dose injection two times, after which she became unconscious. Though she was rushed to another hospital she died on the way.
Protests were held on Tuesday night in front of the hospital and on Wednesday at Mukkoottuthara.
When the relatives tried to take a march with the body to the hospital, the police prevented the attempt by brandishing lathis two times. Following this, the locals blocked Sabarimala pilgrims' path for hours.
