THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police has arrested the driver of the tipper lorry in connection with the death of a boy at the Pettah Junction. The driver arrested has been identified as Jayakumar (36), a native of Anchal.
11-year-old Martin Rahul Raj, son of Beena of Aryanad, riding pillion with his mother was crushed to death by the tipper lorry. Beena has been admitted to the medical college hospital with injuries.
Meantime, Pettah ward councilor D Anil Kumar is staging a hunger strike in front of the police station, demanding the removal of Pettah sub inspector for not taking any initiative to take the injured to the hospital. He also tried to shift the tipper lorry from the spot.
The incident happened last night at 8 pm when Beena and her son was returning after visiting her sister at Anayara. Rahul was thrown off the scooter and caught under the wheels of the truck.
