Seven years’ RI for fake stamp paper case accused

KOCHI: The CBI court on Tuesday sentenced an accused in the fake stamp paper and currency seizure case-one among the 48 cases probed under the infamous Telgi scam to seven years of rigorous imprisonment.

Pronouncing the sentence, judge Kemal Pasha found Bhageeradhan M K, a native of Palakkad, guilty under IPC 489(c) for possession of forged or counterfeit currency. The court has also set off a period of 16 months from the total imprisonment term as the accused had already served the term under judicial custody.

Following the verdict, Bhageeradhan was taken to the district jail in Kakkanad from where he will be shifted to Viyyur Central Jail.

The court has acquitted five other accused in the case, identified as K. Firoz, Muhammadali and Shameer of Palakkad, N K Prasad of Thrissur and Ramanujam of Coimbatore. The court stated that due to lack of proper evidence, the prosecution failed to establish their involvement in the case.
