MALAPPURAM: A youth who ran away from the rock quarry site at Panarukunnu where police conducted a lathi charge was later found dead inside a well nearby. The dead has been identified as Nellani Panarukunnu native Ayyappan (30) and the place lies within the Edavanna Police Station limits.
Ayyappan is believed to have fallen into the well by accident after he ran away from the spot at Panarukunnu, where anti-rock quarry agitation was taking place. He is said to have took to his heels after the police started lathi charge.
The body was found inside the well which had no lid.
The agitation by the locals against the new quarry to be started at Panarukunnu had been going on for the past several days. Yesterday, the locals blocked the vehicles that came with machines for the quarry. The police who reached the spot then wielded lathis to disperse the agitating crowd.
After seeing the body inside the well, the situation turned tense in the area.
