BJP’s poll shocker embarrasses Left, Right

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Proving all predictions wrong, the BJP, often branded as communal party, made an unbelievable progress in its Civic poll prospects. BJP startled both the Left and Right with unexpected wins, which even surprised their leders.

Giving a big shock to the Left and Right fronts, BJP won 34 seats giving room to the speculation that there could be hung house in the Corporation. The LDF has won 42 seats

The results show that in city hubs, there have been a BJP wave. With the BJP coming very close to the LDF in the seat tally, it would not be easy for the latter to continue administration. Moreover, the LDF’s Mayor candidate also could not experience victory this time. He was defeated by the BJP candidate.

Meanwhile, the major setback is for the UDF. They have won only 21 seats. Now, some of their leaders and party men blame the defeat on rebel menace and poor choice of candidates by certain coteries of leaders.

Giving more pains to the UDF, the BJP has come to hold second place in more than 10 places. In the last Lok Sabha election, BJP had gained lead in 60 wards. Cashing in on that victory, the BJP approached the civic polls with the hope of conquering the corporation administration. But, winning so much seats was just their leader’s cherished dream.

If there is no majority, the corporation may get its hung house. In worse situation, nobody will come to support any front or party, pushing the State into a re-election.
