UDF will win eight seats less in Kochi: N Venugopal

KOCHI: KPCC general secretary and former Deputy Mayor of Kochi N Venugopal sounded pessimistic about the UDF’s poll outcome in Kochi. His assessment is that the front will stand to lose eight seats in Kochi civic polls this time, compared to the last time.

He also raised strong criticism against Congress leadership for its selection of candidates. “The party committed many mistakes in coordinating election works. The Congress men themselves came out to defeat their party colleagues. They widely supported rebels in the party. Those in the Christian community were given seats against the party rules. If the UDF wins the election, a person from Latin Catholics community will become the Mayor,” he alleged

Meanwhile, Ernakulam DCC has rejected Venugopal’s allegations, with DCC president V J Paulose saying there was no flaw in coordination of the Congress activities. He also rejected the allegations that Christians were given more seats. “Why didn’t Venugopal, who was part of the decision making process in the party, kept silence at that time?” he asked.
