THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Around 78% polling was recorded in the third phase for the 20 Lok Sabha seats of Kerala. One has to wait for 36 days for the final results.
As per the election commission, a turnout of 78% has been registered in the polling. Kannur registered the highest voting of 80% and the least in Pathanamthitta of about 63.2%.
Polling was stated to be peaceful; only some minor incidents were reported in some parts of the state. A long queue of voters was seen in polling booths in the first few hours. Voting was disrupted in some places due to the malfunctioning of the electronic voting machines but later the problem was rectified by replacing it with new ones.
A huge voter turnout was witnessed till 4.30 pm, it became slow due to sudden showers. Polling was stopped in places like Nedumangad and Neyyattinkara due to power failure following rains.
Noted political leaders exercised their franchise in the morning itself.
Dr Shashi Tharoor, the UDF candidate of the Thiruvananthapuram constituency, came to vote with his mother Lilly Tharoor at the Cotton High School. LDF candidate Dr Bennet Abraham registered his vote at the Karakkonam UP School. BJP candidate O Rajagopal exercised his franchise at the Jawahar Nagar UP School.
Bindhu Krishna, the UDF candidate of Attingal registered her vote in Chathanur. LDF candidate and the sitting MLA A Sampath and his family exercised their votes at the Cotton Hill School.
