THRISSUR: A part of the sacred ornaments which was missing from the Guruvayur Temple 29 years back was Friday recovered from the holy well of the temple. Nagapadathali (traditional jewellery) with 29 blue glass stones and weighing 60 grams were recovered from the well when it was drained to clean.
The theft of the ornament had created a political controversy in 1985. Three sacred ornaments of 210 grams were reported missing then. An ashtamangala devaprasnam was held under the leadership of astrologer Kaimukku Parameswaran Namboodiri following the theft. He had revealed then that a person having ties with the temple had stolen the ornament. The then melsanthi and his daughter were subjected to a lie detector test in connection with the incident.
