THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The cabinet has decided to take necessary steps to clean the Padmatheertham and Mithranandapuram pond, both forming part of Sree Padmanabhaswami temple.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said the government would bear the expense of cleaning the ponds. According to estimates, the project would incur Rs 65 lakh. Further expenditure for the protection of the ponds would have to be borne by the temple officials.
The cleaning will be done with the help of Water Authority and the matters related to the expense will be decided later. Earlier, it was the City Corporation that used to bear the expense for cleaning. The Supreme court will be appraised of the decision.
